In a community-wide survey done recently, respondents reported that they are pleased with the leaders of the City of Salem in many key areas.

This shows that the elected mayor and city council, along with the city manager, are guiding Salem's growth in the same direction wanted by it's citizens.

To keep it's residents safe, Salem has a strong public safety network, composed of the Salem Police Department and the Salem Fire Department.   These emergency service agencies are supported by the city's Department of Emergency Management, and enhanced 9-1-1 dispatching. As the county seat of Marion County, Salem is also home to the county courthouse and office holders.
