Salem is host to a variety
of events each year, most of which
are coordinated entirely through the efforts of volunteers
and community leaders. Each fall, people from around the
nation visit Salem to celebrate at the "Days of Our Lives"
Festival, dedicated to the NBC soap opera set in a fictional
Midwestern town called Salem. Marching bands and floats
take their places in the Little Egypt Parade, the centerpiece
of the Little Egypt Festival. Collectors come from around the
Midwest to show off their tractors at the Southern Illinois
Antique Power Days show and their hot rods at the car cruise. Bluegrass
music lovers gather in the city park for the Bluegrass and Chowder
Festival, a three day event. The Marion County Fairgrounds are home
each year to the county fair, featuring tractor pulls, demolition
derbies, and monster truck competitions. There's always a lot going
on in Salem. Check out our Current Events Calendar to get more
